Are American politics ready for a third party

Are American politics ready for a third party?
Logistically it may be a longshot but I personally think a good amount of Americans are getting plain sick of the bickering and unwillingness of the current two parties to work together. If independents had the finances to run better campaigns I think many of them would stand a good shot in these elections such as last weeks in MA. Your thoughts?

2
With the Supreme Court decision, we now do...the Corporate Party. Which will buy out the other two. Another step towards Fascism.

3
With this new Supreme Court ruling there will never be a a 3rd party ever!

4
I say bring in the Surprise Party. You want to know their policy? then vote them in.

5
the electorial system they have and the owners of the two parties will never allow it, if the usa had electorial reform and proportional representation was introduced then 3rd 4th and more parties would get representation the last time reform was mentioned the red and blue parties told the american people it was a bad idea and they agreed with them,

6
The Stewie party, I have been ready forever.

7
The Democrat Party has been hijacked by the Progressive movement and is in immanent danger of destruction from within. No house divided can stand, both the Democrats and Republicans find themselves in this position. The Republicans are feeling the division of the Tea Party Constitutionalists and the moderate party regulars. If you look closely at the Moderate Democrats and the Moderate Republicans there is very little, if any, difference between them. If the Progressives break from the Democrats and the Tea Party from the Republicans we could have a three party system if the Moderates blend as the Party of the Democratic- Republicans. The three parties: Democratic-Republicans (1792–c.1824), Progressives (the former Bull Moose Party) and the Independent Constitution Party ((Tea Party), a party to restore our government to its Constitutional limits and our law to its Biblical foundations) might all exist again.

8
Some are, but in reality most aren't. Party favoritism and loyalty will always exist. Mainly with the GOP. They are "ride or die" people to the hilt! Most of their great grand parents were in the GOP, as well as their grand parents and parents. It's in their blood, they all think the same. They all past down ancient traditions. The Independent party is still the new kid on the block sorta speak. And you know how that goes. Not many pay him as much attention as the kids who have lived on the block for hundreds of years. He doesn't have the money or the fame to go up against the big wigs who have established power and clout. But you were right about this, "Americans are getting plain sick of the bickering and unwillingness of the current two parties to work together".

9
Depends on whether you want that third party to be left-leaning or right-leaning.

10
No. They had their chance in 1992. I

My wife and I have been married 8 months (MA). She took off with the car.?
I have been financing it since before we were even engaged, The car is financed only in my name and registered only in my name. We are getting divorced and she won't give back the car. Can I report it stolen?

yes, I would call the police and have them take care of it. Sorry to hear about your troubles

2
If you are going through a divorce, you should have an attorney. Ask him/her what you should do.

3
do not report it stolen as she is your wife and might cause legal trouble... but you need a sheriffs escort onto the property of the car and are legaly entilted to your property good luck and hope this helps

4
If she took your car then she stole it because you don't live in a community property state.. You need to get you a good divorce attorney and have him go after her.

5
Hell yes!

Expensive Auto Insurance in Ma need advise! Thanks

Expensive Auto Insurance in Ma need advise! Thanks?
Hi, I live in Ma and I’ve made a couple of mistakes with my driving record, $6,000 auto insurance to be exact. Since my car is financed I have to have some sort of insurance on it. My bank said that I could store my car away and that I had to put Fire and Theft protection on it. Does anyone know how what the yearly premium for something like that would be? Also can anyone suggest any alternatives? Your help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks,

For car insurance the obvious way to get a fantastic rate is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make sure that you pick similar options with the same deductibles, auto make, location, etc so that all options are an accurate comparison. What I usually recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have top name insurers and can give several prices on car insurance polices.

2
autoinsurance.bebto.com - check these plans. As I know their rates for bad driving record is not such expensive as from other companies.

3
I am not an expert in this area, nonetheless I would suggest you take a look here http://www.AutoInsuranceFree.info/free-auto-insurance.htm ,there are helpful tips there

4
escobarjavier31, For car insurance the fastest method to get a cheap quote is do a policy comparison. If you choose the same coverage levels, you can get an quick quote to compare against others. Use the same coverage area, auto make and model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get an apples to apples comparison. To get fast auto insurance quotes, go to http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html and you can compare all the major auto insurance companies.

Car purchase, insurance and parking permit in MA

Car purchase, insurance and parking permit in MA?
Hi, I plan to buy a new car in Mass and have a couple questions: 1. I used to live with my parents who live in Boston. I no longer do now, but I still visit them often enough that I'd really like to get a resident parking permit. Can I get one by adding my Dad as a co-owner of the car? Or must he be the sole owner? 2. I pay a much lower auto insurance rate than my Dad, should I expect to pay an amount in between mine and my dad's rates if I add him as co-owner? 3. I have much better credits than my dad, can I finance the car loan myself and pay for the car alone, even though my dad will be a co-owner? Will he have to pay taxes because I am in essence "giving" my dad the car by adding him as a co-owner? What if he's the sole owner, and I am paying for him? Thanks! Just a clarification, both my credits and my driving records are better than my dad's, so I am not trying to scam insurance since I only stand to lose by adding my dad's name. All I want is a convenient parking space so I do not to have to wait and find parking spots and walk long distances many days a week...

1. Since you no longer live with your parents, you are not entitled to a resident parking permit since you are not a resident. Adding your dad to the car would not make you a resident. 2. Just adding him to your car would have little effect on your insurance rates since you would be the primary driver and living where ever you live. 3. Essentially the same answer as above. I'd suggest you do the right thing in the right way. It looks very much like you are looking for ways to scam insurance (I didn't say you ARE, I said it LOOKS).

2
Well here is the thing putting your dad on the title does not make you an resident. Do not scam the city. 2- Yes if his driving record etc is worse than your insurance will go up even if you are the primary driver. 3-If you are going to put him on the title then he would need to be on the loan. If his credit is worse than yours etc. this would be a bad idea and cost you money. Just live without the sticker it will be better for you in the long run.

Just bought new car, financed through dealer, can I change to bank financing?
I live in MA and I just bought a new car about a week ago. I think I can get better financing through my credit union. Can I switch financing without a penalty or how does that work?

Read your contract, it depends on the terms of the loan...but normally yes you can refinance if you have good credit and the car is worth the amount you got loaned.

2
You can always payoff the dealer's bank and use your credit union, however, it may be a very costly experience, now. Better weigh the numbers.

Need advice on personal finance situation

Need advice on personal finance situation?
If anyone can share their financial wisdom with me, I would help me immensely. My wife and I are in a very tough spot, like a lot of people at the moment. We are currently unemployed, though that could change soon. We owe the MA DOR and the Feds a total of about 10 k in tax debt, about 9 k in credit card debt. 5 k in medical bills, 3 k in collections, and I have a couple of 500.00 pay day loans that I make monthly payments of 130 on. Then we owe 7 k to people who loaned us money in tough times. We are behind on everything. I have been seeking out the chapter 13 BK idea, but we do not have the up-front money for the attorney fees. Is chapter 13 the best idea for us?? Nobody does undecured debt consolidation loans anymore, especially with our credit in tough shape. We rent, so no equity. We just want to gain financial peace and have a plan of action, we cant afford to hire anyone though. Thanks for your inputs, I welcome all advice.

Talk to a real credit counselor -- which will be free. To find a legitimate counselor, contact the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at NFCC.org or call 1-800-388-2227.

2
Your top two debts are not bankrupt-able and neither is the loans from family and friends. they will get paid when you get back on your feet. Stop paying on the credit cards and when you get jobs they will take less than you owe. Medical will go into collections and collections cant get what you don't have right now and they will also settle on smaller amounts when you can pay them. So really the only one that is critical is the pay day loans and to file a Chapter 13 for just $1,000 is crazy. Put on your thinking cap and make that $1,000 ASAP and clear that debt. the rest will all fall into place with cutting back and putting ever dollar you can toward the remaining debt once you have jobs.

3
with no house and what appears to be little in assets a chapter 7 may be your best option. The chapter 7 would eliminate these debts entirely. Many attorneys will advise you of your options in a free consultation In a chapter 13 you would be required to make payment to cover part of these debts. This may be difficult if you are unemployed. If you fail to make required payments the case will get dismissed and at least one credit agency will report the failed bankruptcy for 10 years just like the chapter 10. One of the problems with credit counseling is that many credit counselors are selling their debt management solutions so they are not necessarily any more impartial than a bankruptcy attorney. Recent studies have shown that around 70% of these credit management solutions ultimately fail so use caution. If you enter credit counseling and don't succeed you have wasted time and are back where you started or worse.

4
You might want to talk to a Tax Relief Service. A while back as far as my unsecure debt I got helped with a company called Debt Free League, they were pretty good in resolving my credit card debt of about $12k. I know they work with attorneys that also do IRS Tax stuff, Bankruptcy and Student Loans. Is it affordable? Hell yeah better than paying the full $10k you owe.

5
I think the best advice for your situation would be taking to a govt approved credit counselor. The initial counseling session will be free, and there after depending on what they suggest as a plan of action for you, charges will be very nominal - and even those can be reduced/waived if you request them. It may come down to bankruptcy, but talking to a counselor first may help sort it out a bit. Here are some ideas to ensure your counselor is genuine: http://www.credit-card-debt-relief-info.org/agency-counseling-credit-debt-management.html And here is a link to list of govt approved counselors, by state: http://www.justice.gov/ust/eo/bapcpa/ccde/cc_approved.htm Hope this helps.

I have a finance situation. SO here it is, any advice is well appreciated as long as it is all in good faith

I have a finance situation. SO here it is, any advice is well appreciated as long as it is all in good faith?
I am a 20yo medical student. I am about to graduate in March. Now when I say medical student i mean Medical Assistant. I have a job lined up at a local practice in March. I currently have federal student loans at the max that I can possibly get. I made it to this point on PA unemployment which got me by fine. I recently got a letter stating that my benifits will stop this month. I have not recieved any extensions at this point however im not sure that I am eligble. I need about $5000 to make my bills and rent until I graduate but, the school will not certify any private student loans exeeding $1600. I am doing very well in school and maintain a 3.7 GPA and would not benifit from quiting. I ma not able to get a job because my time schedule does not allow any free time with having 3+ hour of homework a night and having a family. I have a Co-signer available for any loans if that would be the best rouhgt to go. What other options do I have at this point? Are there any financial agency's that will help me through school? Any advice is appreciated and please be civil. Good answer, I have considered getting a personal loan through my bank. Already approved. I am able to afford the payments. Is this a good way to go? I am not able to transfer at this point to a less inexpensive school, i already have 24 credits at this place and they would not transfer. And yes WIC is a great option if they would ever return calls to make a appointment. No luck so far with WIC. The amount that the school would certify would max out my $5500 stafford loan limit that is why they are unable to do more.

I am sorry to say, honestly, there isnt anyone who lends directly to you- since your school wont certify anymore- take that extra money, then the only other option is to use a credit card. You may wish to re-evaluate your situation and your expenses, as your school has a certification amount for a reason (its what they feel you should need to cover your living expenses and tuition). If your going over, you may be spending too much as a student. You may qualify for state assistance such as health insurance etc if you apply, as a student you cant get food stamps, but wic etc if you have a child. Otherwise, ask if you can petition to have that certification amount raised so you can get a larger loan- my school did that for me given they dont take into account child care expenses in the initial certification etc. You will need proof if they offer this option. Last bet, you may need to transfer to a school that doesnt cost as much if you still can (you may not at this point be able to with having so many credits etc I am not sure).

1. Way to long - it needs to one page. 2. 1st paragraph is full of wordy jargon - get rid of it. 3. Tailor your resume for the company that you are sending it to. What kind of experience do you have that they looking for? If they are are a marketing company say what kind of sales and leadership you actually performed instead of saying "sales and leadership". 4. Limit the banking job to one or two lines since the banking job isn't pertinent to the sales and marketing job. Hope this helps

2
You are great. Your resume is hard to understand. Attempts to impress are boastful instead of factual. First paragraph is a waste of time. Throw it out. Abbreviate or eliminate half of the rest and then you'll have room for some hard-hitting bits. Directors and managers that are looking at a stack of resumes want creativity. Tell some experiences (limit to one line) that show yours. Substance. Real work. Results. Money or time saved. Profit earned. Ideas that you invented. "Oversaw" "Prospected" "Responsible for" "Involved in"??? Dump those and tell the results of your efforts. Paint a picture with words that will bring you in for an interview. Then don't be discouraged. "Nobody" has hired you yet because you haven't talked to everybody. Somebody will hire you. Guaranteed.

As much as I see that you want to help your mother, the first thing that you need to realize is that this is part of your mothers life; you can't take responsibility for her misgivings even if it does impact your life. On the other hand, I question where her family is? Isn't there anyone else that can help either financially or other? Even with this "cookout" event, your still going to have to deal with the same thing in the months ahead; yes breaking the cycle of what seems to be wrong in your mothers life is the answer but she needs to also be addressing this, not you... I'm sorry that this isn't the answer you must have been looking for but apart from receiving money from peoples, this problem will not be answered or taken care of on this website...sorry..

2
You could try this website to see if she could qualify for any government benefits to try to help www.benefitscheckup.org Also, may government offices have a homelessness prevention program that will pay a month or two of back rent to help people avoid eviction. Check your city or county's department of housing. Some churches also help with back rent payments. If you belong to a church, try there. Third, your instinct about getting a job yourself is right. If you are 18 or 19, then you can easily get a job working nights and weekends where you at least take home $100 a week. It's not a huge amount, but if you were to give your mom half ($200 a month), or at least use your earnings to pay all your own expenses, that would be a relief to her, and give you some extra spending money as well. So, go ahead and get a job.

When will Democrat take responsibility for the mortgage crisis

When will Democrat take responsibility for the mortgage crisis?
In 2003, "The Bush administration recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis" but, Democrats opposed the overhaul. ''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis. The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.'' -- Barney Frank (D - MA) ''I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing'' -- Melvin L. Give it up, it's not in their genes. We know, history proves it unless they rewrite it. Love the new McCain ad with the words coming out of then President Clinton. Priceless!

3
McCain is the deregulation king! He said so himself. That 'ole maverick.

4
They won't, the answer to this mess is deregulation of the mortgage companies.

5
Didn't Barney Frank pocket millions and millions on the backs of these over inflated mortgages? No, the mess is the fact that banks and loan officers were forced to make subprime loans, people who could not afford to pay for a house now could through "creative" financin and the fact that people could not save. The mortgage crisis was the catalyst for the systematic failures we are witnessing today.

6
will the gop take responsibilty for destroying the economy by working exclusively on behalf of oil companies for the last 8 yrs.

7
Don't worry! once they are in office, they'll fix all the mess the Republicans caused. OBAMA 08

8
Never will, it is their sole responsibility and Barney Frank should be hanged in public.

9
When they actually cause a mortgage crisis. Wasn't the Republican party in charge of the house in 2003? So who really defeated the bill?

10
the funny this is that could come straight off obama's website and the koolaid drinkers would still say it was the republicans fault

11
2003 Washington was Controlled by Republicans so you want to point a finger at who guess there weren't many Republicans on the old Bush Band wagon now was there.and the others to Blame are the Morons that took the loans sub prime and arms buying houses you could not afford.then you got Bush Mr im on it like every crisis he gets that dumb look like he just got hit with the stupid stick.not that it happened on his Watch

12
Republicans were in charge of Congress in 2003. Good try though.

13
Never, they have never taken responsibility in their life. I think its funny that people try and blame the republicans considering that they are the minority in congress.

14
There is no such word as "responsibility" in NewSpeak. Time to reread "1984" before the Fahrenheit 451 squad comes in January to burn your library. (I believe the word was replaced entirely by the word, "Obey." It's a shorter word, and it replaces the antiquated notion of personal responsibility, a cumbersome problem too hard for us to understand.) C'ya in re-education camp.

15
They won't take responsibility. Just look at the founders of this whole mess: Barney Frank (doesn't admit he was apart of it), Chris Dodd (doesn't admit he was apart of it), That Black Guy (doesn't admit he was apart of it). So do you think any other liberal will admit their party had anything to do with it? Infact, I think they won't, and will blame republicans, and have for that matter. The logic of liberals does not put any responsibility on their shoulders, so they don't expect any, but when they do something, that does take responsibility, they will claim none of it. It's a very sheltered reality they live in, and every day more, they are more spoiled in their understanding of not taking responsibility. Even though they are all the more willing to take responsibility for something they did that was good, but when they do something that was bad, they totally shove the idea of being responsible in republicans face as if it were their fault.

16
Since when have Democrats in Congress taken responsibility for anything? This is why divided government sucks balls.

17
I actually saw one take credit for his mistake on tv yesterday but he is the only one i just hope the American people have seen this it is not in the media. The democrats have pushed this bailout bill thru like it was there favorite son's college fund. Why? Because the democrats are knee deep in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Both of these funds are huge contributors to the democrats because of all the money flowing into them. The republicans spoke all day long in 2005 to regulate both of these funds but the democrats argued that these funds were rock solid and safe. I know I am preaching to the choir but if you speak to one of your friends maybe we can actually elect a true conservative in the white house. I feel Bush was one of the worst spenders we have ever seen and he angers me but we do not need another Bush in the White House and that is Obama. He will spend twice what Bush spent. At a time when the economy is falling we cannot afford to have Obama go in there and spend more money. Where the hell does he think he is going to get the money?

18
They never will. Who's forcing them to?! Obama's had two former Fannie Mac CEO's as advisers, he used ACORN to help influence banks to issue subprime loans, he had his buddies at Fannie Mac buying up any BS loan the banks could be pressured into issuing by ACORN. Obama's probably more culpable in this whole mess than anyone in gov't, and the Feds as a whole are responsible to a great degree in this mess. You won't hear this in the mainstream media though, and that coward McCain doesn't help matters. I was going to vote McCain as a vote against Obama, but I will now put aside my few differences with the platform and vote Libertarian. This whole bail-out situation makes me literally sick at my stomach. "For the first time in my adult life, I am" REALLY DAMNED DISSAPPOINTED "in my country!"

19
I think there's plenty of blame to go around, on both sides of the aisle. Yes republicans suggested a major overhaul, but they should have pushed harder. And on the democrat side, well, just look at how Obama cleaned up on Freddie and Fannie (second most campaign contributions, after Dodd). It's an ugly mess, and the sooner we clean it up, the better.

20
Good point... how many left wingers do you think will read facts and process them? I hope America wakes up! It's time to remove almost all of the current polititians in congress to make a point! Look at how much crud they tried to pass with that bailout plan... SICKENING.

21
I saw this coming 5 years ago because of the crooks that worked in the mortgage business. The problem we are in is because there was no regulation of the mortgage brokers and they screwed over the people. This is the fault of the Republicans. But when the financial markets became shaky, I think that someone with something to gain pulled the rug out and that is why we are seeing this now. Interesting that it is happening just in time to benefit Obama.

dont worry bro, change is coming to town. obama/biden

Wow - that's quite a rewriting of history. Li'l Bush was put in the White House to do just this - steal the largest amount of money in human history - $700,000,000,000! It's an old republican scam - McCain got his share of the easy S&L $$$MONEY$$$ when he was part of the Keating 5. Reagan set up the S&L Scandal in the early 1980's - Li'l Bushy set up this "sub prime" bank collapse in 2003. It was all part of republican lie called the "Ownership Society". Republicans have been pulling this scam for years now. How do you think Rich Folks get to be Rich Folks? But blame it on the Democrats if you can - it's the Karl Rove Way!

24
You need to do a little research for the blame game ,first Clinton left billions ,and the Dem have been in control for only 2 of the past 8 years ,this crap happened because no one was watching the people on wall street, no one can blame Dems or Rep,for this ,and if they do they are paying too much attention to the ratings getting media and not their own ears .

25
In 2003 the Republicans controlled both house of congress and the presidency, and Barney Frank was in the minority and one of 400 + members in the house. Had the democrats be in power the responsibility would have been theirs, but they were not. Most of the problem we now face happened in the mortgage markets that were not regulated by the government, and the Bush administration made no move to regulate them Why is it the Republican think teenage unwed mothers should take responsibility for their actions but will not take responsibility for their own. Barney wouldn't let me do it ranks with the dog ate my homework as an excuse

26
No one wants to take responsibility. We as a people, not a bickering party based country need to DEMAND more accountability from our leaders regardless of what party they are in. Even if you don't like the result of who is responsible, it would be good to be informed do that the next time crooks run for office you do not mistakenly cast your ballot for them.

27
Hmm... Okay the article mentions two congressmen wanting to write legislation. The quesion is what legislation did they write? Are they typical Republicans... point things out, but don't follow through? Also, many Republicans have been pointing to Clinton as the cause of this problem back in 1998 when he signed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The ironic thing about that piece of legislation was the bill was sponsored by 3 Republican Gramm, Leach and Bliley. If you look at the roll call, you will see that McCain voted Yes on the bill. However, another interesting thing is those crazy, liberal Democrats from California: Boxer and Feinstein both voted NO on the bill. Looks like those two liberal Democrats were correct for voting NO on the bill. McCain voted Yes. Why don't Republicans just admit their responsibility?

28
In 2003 The republicans were in power as far as the president, the senate and the house. Until the dems gained control back in 2006 GW didn't veto a thing except stem cell research. You need to stop watching Fox news. Do you ever wonder why Fox news is the only network that is telling you the truth? All the other media are liars and are liberal. Do you ever read foreign news where almost every country in the world tells the same lies? You keep watching Fox now and maybe the disney channel for all your facts. Stand your ground and what ever you do don't let anyone confuse you with the true facts

29
Three names...Barney Franks, Chris Dodd, Franklin Rains....all underhanded con artists and Democrats. They and their conies will take responsibility about the tenth of never. To take responsibility for this mess, and what led to it, could lead to jail time for them and their friends.

Medicare advantage providers not allowed to say that the CBO director says MA plans would b gutted w/ Obamacar?
What do you think of that? http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=33681 "Jonathan Blum, an acting director at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is apparently responsible for issuing a gag order against Humana, Inc., on Monday evening. Blum is a former staffer to Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee currently in markup of their own chopped salad version of the health care bill. Baucus has taken credit in the media for demanding CMS issue the unprecedented order. CMS also changed their mailing guidelines to include a ban on any Medicare Advantage (MA) provider sending information or placing information on their websites regarding the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office findings that their Medicare Advantage plans would be gutted if the Democrats pass their government-run healthcare schemes. And why is the AARP which has been plugging FOR Obamacare in its mailings exempt from the concern about mailings?

I am so frustrated that a person with Arts bacground has no prospect. Had I taken Sc./Commers, I would not have to come to such a position. No. We've got plenty of history majors of our own here in the US. As you observed, the availability of a work visa is directly dependent upon the skills the applicant has.

No way!! Go back to school, try to use some of your credits to get a new degree. Very hard to get in the US even if you have a Masters in technology or business....

Esthetician to further education- LPN or MA

Esthetician to further education- LPN or MA?
Not sure what direction I should go. I am a freelance esthetician right now, and work (waste my time) in Finance 2 days a week. I would like to just work for skin care in dermatology. I want to further my education, to enable me to work at a dermatology practice- would LPN or MA be better. Or should I just let them train me and bank on my current skin care experience- which is more spa based. Should I volunteer? Thanks, any insight would be great.

I think that a medical assistant would be a good one. You have already developed some of these skills through your esthetician training.

You need to go for the LPN you'll have more job options open to you and they get paided more then MA. I'm a MA and have been since 2005 and still havent gotten a job in that field. My sister is an LPN and got a job right out of school making good money.

Vanderbilt or Emory, which is the better school

Vanderbilt or Emory, which is the better school?
I am looking to go for a Masters in Economics with an emphasis in finance and banking from Vanderbilt. But I also have the option of attending Emory Law School. Which sounds like the better deal? A year and a half MA Economics program from Vanderbilt or three years and a 100,000 investment with Emory Law School?

Seems to me you need to decide if you are going to pursue economics or law as a career before you make this decision. Both schools have EXCELLENT reputations in these specialties. Consider your ROI as well. 18 mos. in finance/banking could result in a very high-paying position, as could three years in law school. Perhaps you could pursue finance & banking law as an option.

2
They are both great schools. Emory is the slightly better school. But since you are looking at different disciplines, it really shouldn't be the school that determines where you go. Do you want to be a lawyer or do you want to work in finance? If you really want to go into banking, I would recommend an MBA program over the MA program. The only advantage to the MA over an MBA is that you can do it without work experience.

Is anyone else getting the run around from Chase Home Finance in regards to the MHA program

Is anyone else getting the run around from Chase Home Finance in regards to the MHA program?
Last July, I contacted Chase Home Finance and asked if I could apply for the Obama plan to keep my home out of foreclosure. I had gone thru a nasty divorce 3 years earlier, laid off from my job and took one with a massive pay cut, and was unable to afford the almost $1000/month mortgage. I was only bringing home $1424 a month and trying to raise three teenage daughters with no financial support from their father. *The loan was taken out when I was married.* Now, at the start of the trial payments, I was on workman's comp as well and explained that to them. They wanted a copy of my divorce decree and a letter about the WC. I faxed that to them ASAP. I then began my trial payments and didn't miss a single one and was on time. In January, I received the "final" paperwork which I signed immediately and sent in with all requested documentation. I fulfilled every request that was listed in the modification request. When I didn't hear back from them, I called and they told me my paperwork was incomplete because my ex husband didn't sign the paperwork. I explained to them AGAIN I was divorced and even in their own contract it clearly states he doesn't have to sign it since he didn't get the house in the divorce. I pointed out the section and subsection of this information in their OWN CONTRACT. After me calling repeatedly, I finally get a call back saying they need a copy of my divorce decree for a THIRD time along with a quit claim deed signed by my ex husband. I gathered the documentation and faxed it in again. I then spent the next three months calling and asking "What do I need to send in as a payment?"..."We can't take a payment from you. There is a stop on your account because they are reviewing your information." I even asked "Are you going to try and charge me late charges or declare me delinquent even though I keep trying to pay you?"..."No ma'am. There is a stop on your account. There is nothing you and I can do." I then receive a letter from them on June 7th, 2010, that my modification was denied because I "requested a withdraw from consideration" or "failed to accept the Trial Period Plan or Home Affordable Modification within the required time period". When I called Chase, they said I hadn't made a payment since Sept. of 2009 and that I owed them over $10,000 including late charges. When I asked why the modification had been denied, they informed me that it was because my ex husband refused to sign thus nullifying the application. WHAT? ARE YOU SERIOUS???? I then explained everything that has happened since July of 2009 and broke down crying. I've never been more frustrated and more upset. How many hoops can one jump thru trying to fix a situation and only getting the run around? Anyone else with this problem?

Visit this discussion forum: http://www.loansafe.org/forum/register.php You will have to register, but will find a ton of people in your same situation

2
This actually happens more often than most people think. You need to remember that there are tons of other files that are also being processed and most lenders, if not all, are understaffed and simply don't have the resources to get this done right. Is it fair? No, but it is what it is. The best thing you can do is have an organization that can do this for you for free. There are many others that are great that charge a fee, but you will find good ones for free. It saves you from some of the headaches, worries and stress that comes with this process. Plus, they are able to deal with roadblocks and issues that arise as they are trained negotiators.

3
Put your tax dollars to work. Go to your local senators office (Make sure you go in person) Explain your situation to them and make sure you have all of your documentation. They will be sure to help. Go to each one Democrat and Republican who represent your area. Next go to the news channels and newspaper. If you are not shy and take the offensive to what is occurring to you then you may be able to turn the tide. I would also seek a more efficient organization to represent on the loan modification process. The best ones stay in contact throughout the process so nothing would slip through the cracks. The lenders have incentive to get loan mods done since the TARP is providing them $1000. just for getting a person in a temp mod which can convert to a permanent mod with as low as 2% interest rates!!!!

I am looking for a finance/marketing internship, anyone know where to look

I am looking for a finance/marketing internship, anyone know where to look?
I am a senior in high school and i participate in a school program called W.I.S.E. In this program students basically have to do an internship in a field of their choice. I have been having a hard time finding an internship that doesn't require a lot of time and that is in a local area. I am interested in doing an internship in finance/marketing (but anything related to business will be fine). I took the following courses in high school (or still taking). Intro to business Principles of economics Marketing I live in Newton, MA, and have access to a car. So yeah...work for free up to 14 hours or so. Anyone know a place where i could find an internship?

Are you going to be doing this internship during school hours? Nights? Weekends? I imagine if it's in finance, then you will need to work business hours or hours when someone is there to oversee you. Since this is during school, your best bet would be to go through your school (teacher, guidance counselor, etc.) or at least ask about what you will need to do in order to get excused from being in school during the time you are at the business. Also, someone at the school might know someone in the field in which you want to work. one place you could start are local banks, credit unions and maybe investment firms. Check out the "About Us" section of their websites to see where they are based and to make sure they are a local business. You might also want to check with your local Chamber of Commerce, which is an organization that many local businesses join. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

Question re: Democrat opposition to Federal Housing Finance Reform Act

Question re: Democrat opposition to Federal Housing Finance Reform Act ?
It has now been widely reported that John McCain co-sponsored the Federal Housing Finance Reform Act of 2005, which contained language that would have done a good deal to reign in the largess of Fannie and Freddie. It has also been widely reported that the Democrats “killed it”. In reading through the record of discussion on this bill, however, I find that the Democrats whole heartedly supported it until an amendment was added that stripped away the ability of faith-based groups to receive federal funds for affordable housing programs. Mind you, much of this discussion took place in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and the subsequent re-building efforts. Excerpts: Rep. Joseph Crowley [D-NY]: Mr. Speaker, I rise to lament the wrecking of a solid, bipartisan bill that, at one time, both established a tough new regulator for our Nation's secondary mortgage market and created a new national housing trust to build affordable housing…. [Republicans] claim to represent people of faith, but they are stripping away the ability of groups like Catholic Charities, Baptists and other people of faith to use this new funding to benefit their communities and make America stronger. Rep. James McGovern [D-MA]: On behalf of Catholic Charities USA, the national association of Catholic social services agencies and institutions serving over seven million people in need every year, I urge you to support H.R. 1461, the Federal Housing Finance Reform Act of 2005, and to oppose amendments that would prevent experienced faith-based and community-based organizations from successfully competing for the proposed affordable housing funds. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/record.xpd?id=109-h20051026-37&bill=h109-1461#sMonofilemx003Ammx002Fmmx002Fmmx002Fmhomemx002Fmgovtrackmx002Fmdatamx002Fmusmx002Fm109mx002Fmcrmx002Fmh20051026-37.xmlElementm50m0m0m I was under the impression that it was largely the Republicans who have favored governmental support of faith-based agencies to address issues in our communities rather than burdening agencies like FEMA to do all the work. But the amendment to this bill, which led the Democrats to vote it down, seems to say otherwise. What say you? Miss Kitty – It states that groups which received funding for housing programs would have been stripped of their ability to hold voter registration drives, even when the drives were not partisan but simply non-partisan drives to register voters. The point is, the Democrats would have approved the bill if the amendment had not been added. The Spirit of Red – I agree with you about opening the can of worms. However, it was the Republicans, including GWB, who pushed for the federal funding of faith-based groups.

I say "Ha Ha, Got em!" Republicans in charge have been B.S. since Reganomics cam into play. Its like all the other slander campaignes. Republicans vote for acts that sound good and when an election comes along it gives them an upper hand. Because they make it look like the guy who didnt vote for the bill dosn't support the common people.

4
Well, if you read the article, the problem was about voter registration not housing reform. What was appropriation of funds for voting doing in this bill? This is the kind of stuff we need to get rid of in Washington.

5
Wouldn't that have opened a whole new other can of worms, with the separation of church and state? In regard to the constitution, taxes would be imposed on these groups who are now tax exempt, for receiving federal funds. It is far better for faith based groups to do the work voluntarily as many are presently doing without the funding, and they prefer it that way. It is far better to give than to receive. I also read the article and concur with Miss Kitty. ~

6
Upfront Great Question. This shows two problems with our Congress. It shows that make attachments that they know will doom legislation that couldn't stand on it's own. It also shows how partisanship comes before the American people. The Republicans should have redrafted the bill in it's Original form to pass and then re wrote the attached legislation to a form that the democrats could have agreed with, or dumped it as bad legislation. I agree that putting religion, housing and voter registration in one package is absurd too. There has to be something in a package like that, that no one would vote for. Edit: Also, this shows that McCain was for stricter regulation or over sight on the two failed institutions as he claimed and for the democrats attempts in denial is preposterous.

Looking to change careers from nursing to finance/investments

Looking to change careers from nursing to finance/investments?
I have a bachelors degree from a state school here in MA. My gpa was somewhere around 3.0, or 3.2 at my first nursing school, but had a 3.9 the last two years at my new school. my overall gpa at my first school would be much higher had it not been for a class that my advisor would not let me drop. Have been working as a nurse for about two years now and thinking of going for something else. i initially picked nursing because at the very least it would give me a good fall back. it's been getting tedious lately though, and not as challenging. there isnt the earning potential as in investments. economics and finance have been long standing interests of mine anyway, and would rather work to make the switch now rather than later. The salary +bonus oppurtunities seem more attractive as well. I'm looking into sitting for my GMAT and getting into a decent school for a masters in finance. one school has a masters in financial planning. any suggestions in helping me make this change? all in all, my main questions are should i try and get an entry level job for a financial firm first? will that potentially help me get into a better grad school? or should i apply and just try and land some good internships while in school?

MA economics and actuarial field

MA economics and actuarial field......?
I have 2 MA degrees in economics (from 2 different countries), and 3 yrs work exp in development economics research field (currently working in an international organization). With these degrees I am not taken seriously whn I apply for finance related jobs. I am thinking of broadening my possibilities. I have rigorous training in calculus, math and probability and stats, and feel I can pass some of the actuarial exams with some preparation. However, after passing these exams (esp 2/FM) , can I get jobs which are not actuarial but just finance based, say, finance analyst in companies? I am not sure if i want to make a career in actuary field. Should I just take some finance courses? If so, how can I highlight that in my resume when I apply for finance related jobs? Thanks!

MA in Econ or MBA

MA in Econ or MBA?
I need some help here. I have my BA in Economics. I am going to go back to school for my masters degree but am unsure of which to get. I was pretty much sold on an MBA with an emphasis on finance. As the time came closer to start the program, I got worried I was making a mistake. I cancelled classes. I think I might want an MA in Economics. Here's my issue: an MBA seems to be much more versatile. I won't get myself pigeon-holed into one career path that may not work out for me. I see unlimited possibilities with an MBA. Then there's the MA in Econ. My passion is economics. I love it and want to work for the federal govt or the Fed someday. I'm afraid it will be difficult to find a good job after completing that degree. After all, how many economists do you know? Please give me any insight you have as far as the reality of the MBA vs MA in Econ.

I have a BA in Finance, an MBA in Management, and a PhD in Organizational Behavior. You are absolutely correct in your supposition that the MBA is more flexible. I am not sure what school you are looking at but would it be possible to get the MBA with a concentration in Economics? Or even take Economics as all of your electives? On the other hand if you are truly passionate about Economics you may want to go that route. Have you looked for Economics jobs in the government sector? What are the minimum requirements as far as education and experience? It may be that any masters level degree will suffice or there could be requirements for specific degrees. Good luck with our education. The most important thing to do is to actually take some classes, preferably ones that would apply to either program until you make your decision.

Who is responsible for the Economy situation today

Who is responsible for the Economy situation today?
The current financial crisis facing the United States of America and the world began with the US home ownership debacle and President William Jefferson Clinton. In 1994, Clinton signed a bill to promote low-income home ownership that Business Week calls "one that argues for creative measures to promote homeownership" for those applicants who did not qualify for fixed mortgages. And these applicants came in droves and were almost always approved - no matter their credit histories or ability to pay. Said "creative ownership" began the heavy distribution of ARMs (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) that ensued. These ARMs began low but, are based on the market. As the market changed, the rates - and subsequent monthly payments for homeowners - rose to rates that the homeowners could no longer afford. Foreclosures on the ARM properties began and, like Dominos cascading onto one another, the current financial meltdown began. Both Fannie Mae and Freddie MAC were essentially and quietly taken over by the Clinton Administration and his operatives and supporters - including Franklin Raines who ran Fannie Mae and ended up with over $6M his first year - raided both corporations which had become their personal slush funds. From his days of running Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines is reported to have accumulated a personal net worth of over $100M. Another Clintonian buddy - Jamie Gorelick (remember her from the CIA/FBI fiasco?) - is also said to be personally worth in excess of $100M. It appears that some in government service CAN achieve wealth beyond the wildest dreams of most of us! They just have to sell their souls to the highest bidder and be willing to betray their fellow Americans. This fortune was accumulated during her years (1997-2003) as Vice Chairman of Fannie Mae. The fraudulent accounting scheme which apparently allowed for Democrats Raines, Gorelick and other Clinton supporters to achieve vast fortunes in a very short period of time was brought to light in 2004. As mortgage firms and investment banks heavily leveraged by ARM mortgages started to be adversely affected by the number of foreclosures, the current financial crisis began in earnest. Democrats Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) also the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee - of all things - and Democrat presidential Candidate Barack Obama (who is reported to be the 3rd largest recipient of Fannie Mae political contributions - said to be over $100K in less than 4 years) have also benefited greatly from these Democrats' personal slush funds. However, in the worst cut to We the People from the knife of corruption, the very people who created this problem will now be in charge of "correcting" it! Does this make any sense to anyone except those who have received and continue to receive funds from these institutions?????????? If we really want to get rid of these corruptions we have to vote these sleazes out of office. That requires courage. The only question remaining is: Do we have the internal fortitude to do it? If the answer is "No," you can kiss your money and your country good bye and prepare for an inevitable serfdom. http://www.businessweek.com/the_thread/hotproperty/archives/2008/02/ clintons_drive.html http://www.allbusiness.com/finance-insurance/993847-1.html http://www.dollarsandsense.org/archives/2007/0507karger.html http://volokh.com/posts/1216060102.shtml http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_091808/content/ 01125107.guest.html http://americantaxpayer.wordpress.com/2008/09/18/barney-frankchuck- schumer-role-in-failure-of-fannie-maefreddie-mac/ People wake up stop listing to your liberal bias media and get the facts!!!

1) american people with bad credit who take these loans knowing that they will suffer in the future. 2)businesses for not being as cautious with who they give loans. 3)congress, for not agreeing to the bailout plan! 4)Nancy pelosi, for having that speech right before the bailout plan vote wich probably turned the tide. 5)not bush of course. He warned about such companies. (ex. Phanny and .......(i forgot name)

I can't believe the poeple are still blaming Clinton for the mess that Bush has created over the last eight years. Clinton created a surplus. Bush started a war, spent money like a drunken sailor and turned that surplus into a huge deficit.

11
Republicans caused it. Phil Gramm stripped away all regulations on the banking and housing industries. Without his actions, clinton's would have been totally innoculous. If Bush had been able to stop vacationing long enough to read the brief about OBL's attack being imminent, he could have done what every previous president did --- and kept the country safe. If that had happened we don't invade Afganistan and we might not even invade Iraq. That is a ton of debt not incurred that would not devalue our dollar and spike the cost of oil (cost of oil moved as the dollar devalued). All Republican ideas.

The problem isn't the fact that they make loans. Its the fact that nobody was watching, nobody was there to say, "NO" when they made loans to people that didn't have a down payment or the means to repay the loan. Personally I find it amazingly wrong that they were making those loans simply because those people were minorities.

should i move in with him

should i move in with him ?????????
Should my boyfriend move in with me ?? My boyfriend is not happy at uni he says he wants to quit and definatley doesn't think he will make it through to his third year. I have been very supportive and have been telling him to stick it out. However he really hates it problem is his mum and dad have thrown out his bed and his sister has now moved into his room. I feel really horrible sending him back home to sleep on his sofa and his family especially his dad who is controlling and lets just say not a nice man so im guessing hes going to move in with me. But im just not sure if it feels right :/ i mean i would love to live with him and i love him very much. but i have never had my own things in life growing up with a big family and not even having my own bithday for myself as im a triplet. I dont know if im really i just have this feeling inside but i want him to move in because id have company and id feel safer especially at nite . finances would be easier and i could do lots of home imrovements. Ma and craig have been together over 1 year now and we even spent the whole summer with him liviing with me which was really great but i did miss my space sometimes. but i enjoyed having someone there. What should i do its a really tricky situation because i dont want us to get on each others nerves and i will miss the feeling i get when i get really excited to see him when we have to meet up in preston at the weekends need help and advise!

We all need our space,The moving in is ok but it will be very restrictive too. This is ok as long as your relationship is strong.

2
I'd say it never hurts to get married and committed first because it will only make your relationship stronger if you do. Its only been one year so need to keep improving your relationship first

3
Only you can decide that, do you see a future with your boyfriend have him sleep over as much as he can but not permanently then you will find out if its meant to be don't really no someone until you live with them, don't have him move in just for the financial side it won't work, if its meant to be it will work and you will always have that excited feeling it never goes away me and my partner have been together for a long time we both leave the house early for work and don't see each other till about 6 and still can't wait to get back to see him.

4
The disadvantage :You will really miss the different exictement/nerves if he move with you. You will miss your space and privacy too. (and if your parents are conservative this is not a good news to them) And the advantages: u will know him alot,u will get to know one another. You are safer in his arms every night...

What are good jobs for people who love economics, but hate sales

What are good jobs for people who love economics, but hate sales?
Hello, I'm fascinated by Economics. I know ... NERD! Whatever, the more I find out, the more I want to know. Most people think Stock Broker or Financial Advisor when they think about Finance. I hate sales, though. I can do it, but I'm sure I could learn to eat with my feet if necessary as well, and it's toss up to which I would rather rely on for my living. So what jobs are there in finance for LOVERS of economics, HATERS of Sales Based Employment; and how do I get them? I already have a degree in Business, but not in Econ, Finance, or Accounting. I've considered going back to school for a combination of MBA/MA in Economics/JD Law Degree. Even if I get more schooling, I'll still need a day job at this point to finance it. So what can people recommend? Thank you in advance to everyone who can help me.

business analyst would be a good job

2
I can relate to what your saying. I wasn't into sales, bot a BA in Business Management, then got an MBA. Currently I'm employed as the Financial Analysis Manager at a regional bank's corporate offices. It's not bad. Another line you may want to consider is getting into education and teach economics. For those of use whom are sales oriented and don't care to much for accounting, that's a good option. Good luck and feel free to email with any questions,

financial analyst- recongnizing trends for the financial advisors. economics professor or high school business teacher economic advisor for the government call your university and ask an advisor what options there are for economic majors or just call the econ department and speak with a TA or Prof

Affordable Medical Insurance plan in Boston, Ma

Affordable Medical Insurance plan in Boston, Ma?

Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company. If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant. On the other hand if you are young and healthy and rarely use the health care system you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead. You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. That adviser can answer questions as to what is and is not covered by the policy, explain deductibles and copays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network. Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price. Some might even "pitch" a discount plan that is not insurance at all. Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.

Coaching may not be necessary. I presume that you have done BA (Economics) already. You can take help of friends occasionally. But your self study should be intensive. As for optional papers best is to take Econometric Methods and Acturial Economics, if you are strong in Statistics and Mathematics. If not, best is to choose Financial Institutions and Markets and Electronic Governance. These may not be very easy but interesting for a person doing selfstudy. Good luck.

"Guaranteed Financing" Car Dealerships in MA

"Guaranteed Financing" Car Dealerships in MA?
So I'm 17 and I need to buy a new car. I'm looking to get a car for 7-10 grand, but I cannot get a loan. I have a job running a recording studio sometimes making $800 a month, but it's not "official" or whatever. My mom cannot get a loan because she has terrible credit, and will possibly be filing for bankruptcy. I can however put $2000 or maybe $3000 down. Are these "guaranteed financing" dealerships for real or is it some sort of scam?? and If there are for real are there any really good ones I should visit in eastern Massachusetts/ Boston area? thanks. BTW i'm looking to get a 2000-2002 BMW 3 Series if that makes any difference.

If you were 18, a subprime lender would finance you. But with only $800 a month in income, you could only get a $5000-6000 car. At 17, you cant enter into a legal contract. But you can buy a car for cash from a private party. At 18 you can buy from a buy here pay here dealer. Here is how buy here pay here car dealers operate You will often get a car that is worth (At wholesale) not much more than your down payment yet you will owe many thousands more plus a high rate of interest. For example, if you put $800 down, you might get a car with a wholesale value of $700-1200 and your balance to be financed will be $3500-3900 or more. Plus interest at 21-29%. On somewhat nicer stuff, say $1500 down, you might get a $2500 wholesale unit Yet owe $5900-6900 more plus interest. And at 21-29% that interest can REALLY add up. Most cars are sold as is. Any "service contracts" they sell are usually worthless too. Often , the car will break down sometime before its paid off . That's your problem, not the dealers and you cant stop paying because of it. So, TRUST me when I say your best bet is to save up $1200-2000, shop around for a really good deal from a private party, have an independent mechanic check it out only AFTER you are sure you want it and have agreed on a price. Then have him make sure its a good car. There is no such thing as a "good deal" at a buy here pay here car dealer. And BHPH dealers often know nothing or do nothing to their cars. They go from Auction to their lot to you. They have no idea whats wrong or might go wrong soon. And they don't really care. With bad credit,(Or no credit or cosigner) you simply cant afford to borrow....for ANYTHING. Now, all that being said and knowing how many people are, they are going to ignore my advice and buy from one anyway. As I said, THEY ARE ALL BAD DEALS. But, if you have to choose one, choose one who demand the most amount of financial information from you and trys to "set you up to succeed". They make more of an effort to buy a car that will last the length of the note and they will insist that you pay exactly how you get paid....if you get paid weekly, your car payment is due weekly. If you get paid every 2 weeks, your car note is every 2 weeks. Why do they want this and why is it good ? Because they know quicker if you are falling behind and there is a smaller chance of an emergency or monthly rent taking priority over the car note. The "better" of the BHPH notes will also try to go over your budget with you so that they can see how reasonable it is that you WILL pay as agreed. The bad ones don't care and will sell to you just to repo as soon as you are late. If they can see from your budget that you cant afford the car, they are less likely to sell it to you where the bad dealer will just sell to you to get your down payment.

Moving to Cambridge,MA from Miami, what do I do to make my car on-street parking legal

Moving to Cambridge,MA from Miami, what do I do to make my car on-street parking legal?
I'll be a grad student at MIT, own a financed car, and will need to get an on-street parking permit. It is a confusing process so I'm looking for clarity. - The State of Mass allows me to not change my Florida registration, and fill out a temporary student registration form. - However, City of Cambridge requires me to have ,ass registration to get on-street parking. - What do I do to get Mass registration? Does this involve gettin Mass License Plate? What about my title, do I do anything with it (which is currently in the hands of my bank)? - I know car insurance is another complicatin, but luckily I have StateFarm which exists there, and will allow me to do a smooth transition. But do they require title/registration switch to Mass? Pheww. and any word on drivers license switch up?

A MA registration requires a MA license plate and insurance. Once this is done, go to the nearest Registry of Motor Vehicles and get a MA license. They will retitle the car and mail it to the lender.

I want to go back to college and get my MA in History, but my spouse says no. Thoughts

I want to go back to college and get my MA in History, but my spouse says no. Thoughts?
I am re-submitting the question with the following details: It is purely for PLEASURE, I do not intend to use the MA for anything but my own enrichment. My job pays well enough, the MA does not have any effect on job advancement. It does not have any impact whatsoever on our finances (my employer will pay for the courses). It does not affect time spent with my spouse (I am foregoing another regularly scheduled activity to return to school). The only reason I have received from my spouse is that "you already have enough education, you don't need any more than you already have." Thanks to all who take the time to answer!

I have a hunch that you are already more educated than your spouse, or are about to be. Maybe they feel belittled by your education?

2
Go for it. If he feels you don't need more education, then he is probably insecure that you will be more highly educated than he. That is definately an issue you need to address. But, don't ever let anyone prevent you from personal growth.

3
I will fully encourage you to do what you want to do. Your spouse should encourage you also. Education is never enough if you have appetite for it.

4
You should do whatever your heart desires! If your husband does not support your dreams and goals then who will? You should just do it! :-) You could sit down and explain to him that you really enjoy history and it would purely be for fun. What's the harm in that?

5
With all the circumstances that you have listed, it sounds to me like your spouse is just basically holding you down and keeping you from bettering yourself for no good reason at all. I think that's a serious problem. If it cut into your finances or your time with him/her, I think that would be different, but since it does neither of those things, then honestly I think he's/she's just being a jerk. Are they just afraid of you becoming smarter than them? It kind of sounds like it to me. Not to put your spouse down or anything, but this is something that would seriously bother me were I in your shoes.

6
Sounds like he's worried you'll be more intelligent than him, or you'll meet someone in your classes that you have more in common with. Personally, it sounds like he's feeling insecure and doesn't like the idea of you becoming more intelligent than you already are. Maybe he doesn't want you bettering yourself. I would sit him down and have a serious talk with him - make it clear you're doing this for fun, to learn more, it's not going to cost you anything and there's nothing wrong with getting more education.

7
Do what you want. He doesn't own you. Inform him you have decided to do this and do it. End of story.

8
I think you should go back to school......but......I also think you shouldn't intentionally cause a huge problem in your marraige. See if you can talk your spouse into seeing your side, after you are sure you understand his/her side. If you can't come to an agreement, then I would suggest going to see a counselor. If what you said in your post is true, then I think there is a stronger underlying reason s/he doesn't want you going back to school. Figure out that underlying reason, and you'll have a better chance of coming to an agreement. Good luck!

9
Honestly I would wonder why my spouse is so against it. I have my Bachelors and will graduate with a masters in Administration next year...I am doing it slowly - one course at a time, not that much time away from family and responsibility. Everyone needs a hobby or something to do away from the spouse and people ion their lives . it is a HEALTHY thing to do. Find out why it bothers her (or him) so...they have to be OK with it - or else it will not be enjoyable and will turn into a heartache

10
Go for it. It's your life not his. If you don't do it now, i can guarantee you'll regret it when you're gray and old.

11
I too have numerous degrees here and there. I think there are times that men get intimidated with a woman who has brains. I mean, they would rather we were docile, sweet and can converse with them in numerous topics but at times it bothers them when they think we know more than they do. What has always been helpful when I need to coax my husband over a new project that I feel passionately about is to tell him that I feel more validated when I know more than the average Joe about something that I like to learn about ( may it be the difference between the sodium content of water here at home VS that of the Amazon river). You do things for you. At the end of the day when you make your husband realize how a gem he has in you it will no longer matter, and being as smart as you are I am sure it's gonna be a challenge you are up to. SMILE and good luck

12
I wish all people had the desire to make learning a life-long endeavor. I am starting my MA program in History at NYU this fall. I have the same argument with my parents. I am taking out loans to do it and moving across the country. If it's paid for and you want to do it go for it. Your husband should be happy to have such a smart and motivated wife! P.S. Does he really get veto power over this? It's 2006 and it's your life.

13
Same answer as the other one: ask your spouse if they have any dreams, things they want to do just for fun, and then tell them that they cannot pursue them. See how it makes them feel! You can never, NEVER, have "enough education." Every day is a learning process. When you stop learning, you die. Good luck!

14
It sounds to me like your spouse is threatened by the possibility that you might become more educated than s/he. Why in the world would anyone in a healthy relationship keep his or her partner from pursuing and achieving the things that give that person pleasure and fulfillment? And why in the world would you need your spouse's permission?

15
I did my undergrad in history and absolutely loved it. If you want to do an MA go for it. I'm currently getting my masters in business. My program is full-time, I'm assuming that yours would be part time. My one piece of advice is to talk with students in the program at your university candidly about the time requirements. My program is taking a serious toll on my current relationship. Your spouse may be concerned that your free time will be taken over by these courses. History requires a ton of research, and it is hard to put it aside entirely when you are pursuing your work and personal life. Whether you want for it to or not, doing an MA will probably affect the time spent with your spouse and it is an issue that should be addressed.

16
As others have said, if he's truly only objecting because he thinks you've gone to school enough, he's threatened. However, he may have reasons that he hasn't shared with you. Again, I will agree with others. I'm just finishing an MA program in History. It is time consuming and difficult. For many of your classes you will have to read a book per week, and some will require more. Same goes for writing papers. I sometimes wrote 20 papers in a semester. Don't think that you can do this easily because you have a spare evening. Nine hours at the graduate level takes more of your time outside of class than 16 hours at the undergrad level. Everybody in my program worked at least 20 hrs per week. None of us were allowed to carry more than 9 hrs, but anybody working more than 20 hours a week had a lot of trouble keeping up. I'm sure that you're capable of doing the work, but maybe he's really worried that this will require too much time away from him? Believe me, even one class per semester on top of your job will do that.

17
Keeping a good relationship with your spouse should be one of your top priorities. It should especially rank higher than pursuing a degree that you do not need. Yes, I agree with the other responders that continuing to educate oneself is good and that you should, in as non-threatening of a way possible, explain to your spouse why this is important to you. However, in the end, if your spouse isn't agreed I recommend that you study on your own. There are certainly enough resources out there that one does not need to be enrolled in a college program to learn about what such a program would teach. Best wishes. I wish you a long and happy marriage.
